Wootton Bassett Infants’ School
Project for Wiltshire Council to replace life-expired temporary buildings on an existing infant school site. The development is split into two parts with teaching provision located in a new block adjacent to the main road, and a new library building located in a treehouse-type structure intended to make reading a fun experience.
The new teaching block includes four classrooms together with associated toilets, cloakrooms, and group teaching spaces. It is connected to the upper playground and library via a bridgelink/ access deck running the full length of the building which provides a generous play space to each classroom. The block has two double pitch roofs running perpendicular to the slope creating a well proportioned elevation to the high street. NVB also provided landscape design which makes use of the slope to create an amphitheatre, set into the hillside for whole school gathering and play.
The building layouts have been carefully coordinated with construction phasing to ensure that the school can remain in operation throughout the works.
