Portway School
Portway Community School occupies a gently sloping site overlooking the mouth of the Severn on the north side of the river. The original proposal was to refurbish the existing school buildings at the west end of the site including the 4-storey concrete tower and a large number of single storey lightweight steel buildings. Following detailed analysis of asset value, access and circulation, and phasing, it was found that a new build approach delivered a better product at a lower cost and the agreed scheme is therefore a new school at the west end of the site.
