Longleat Adventure and Safari Park
Longleat has the oldest Gorilla in Europe who is now largely a recluse living on his own island. Longleat was therefore keen to provide facilities for a new colony without disturbing the elder gorilla.
Completed in 2012 the new gorilla house enclosure provides accommodation for four Western Lowland gorillas. The building is set on the edge of an ornamental pond which is part of the registered parkland surrounding Longleat House. The proposals were developed in close consultation with the local planning authority and English Heritage.
The layouts are designed in accordance with British and Irish Zoo Association (BIAZA) guidelines, providing separation for newly integrated animals together with a full range of enrichment facilities both inside and outside of the building.
