The aim of this project was to create a high quality Christmas event with a view to increasing visitor numbers during the low season. It includes a 20x30m real-ice rink, skate hire facilities, a market for 35 stalls and a 40ft high ‘singing’ Christmas tree.
Located immediately adjacent to the Grade I listed house and stable courtyard, the project was designed in close collaboration with English Heritage. The first year of operation was run under a temporary planning consent in order to evaluate the proposals, with a new application submitted in the second year which included a number of agreed amendments to the original proposals. The event has been well received and is now a significant feature in the seasonal calendar.
