Epsom College, Lower School
The project required the conversion of an existing building to provide a new state-of-the-art Lower School at Epsom College.
The construction work involved the installation of a new steel frame, which was inserted into the fabric of the existing building. The building was provided with new floors and internal walls throughout. Part of the roof was removed to allow the installation of the new mechanical plant to provide heat and ventilation to the building and the external fabric of the building was upgraded to become extremely energy efficient, complying with the college’s commitment to reduce its impact upon the environment.
An exciting new entrance was provided to give the building an identity and a sense of purpose. The external works of the building were completely redesigned to provide space for both play and social interaction, away from the classroom.
The Lower School building was highly commended in the 2016 Education Business Awards for the most technically advanced building constructed for the purpose of teaching current and future pupils.
