Contract awarded to build new Lower School at Epsom College

May 7, 2015

NVB have worked closely with Epsom College to develop the design and tender documentation to create a new Lower School for the College, expanding the College’s age range. The new Lower School will be located within an existing residential building on the College’s Campus; this necessitates the complete removal of all of the internal walls and floors with a new steel frame inserted whilst retaining the existing elevations and roof. A new circulation stair tower will be erected to the rear and a contemporary entrance reception created. The main contract has been awarded to R Durtnell & Sons, the country’s oldest contractor who have been in operation since 1591.

NVB Landscape Receives Plaudits for Another Successful Project

April 15, 2015

St Mary’s School, Calne – All-Weather Sports Pitch and Hard Games Courts

“NVB directed and coordinated an excellent team that built a full-size FIH International Standard all weather pitch (with additional netball and tennis courts) for St Mary’s Calne.  The project was delivered quickly, without setbacks and, thanks to the thoughtful landscaping, it now looks as if it had always been set into the school grounds.”

Work Continues Apace at Dauntsey’s School

April 13, 2015

The sports hall infill project continues apace and is due for completion this summer. Existing changing rooms and the fitness suite have been completely refurbished and a new floor added above. This initially provides classrooms (whilst the Maths & Geography department is being redeveloped) but will ultimately provide a large dance studio, PE classroom, a permanent office for the school’s sailing club and new squash courts. The project has also allowed us to create a spectator area for the existing sports hall for the first time since its construction in the late 1970s.

New Sports Pavilion for Dauntsey’s School

April 1, 2015

Steelwork and concrete planks are now being installed and the new pavilion is slowly rising out of the ground. The building will provide much-needed changing rooms at the lower level, whilst the upper level will provide both a multi-use social area and panoramic views of the surrounding sports pitches.

The project is due for completion in August this year.

Dauntsey’s School Planning Approval

March 23, 2015

New Maths & Geography Department at Dauntsey’s School.

Planning approval has just been granted for the redevelopment of a 1950s classroom block at the heart of the school to provide more modern facilities. The new building will have two wings separated by a large central ‘street’ on each floor level, off which are a mixture of large and small classrooms.

The original building suffered from poor thermal performance and also glare from the large areas of south-facing glazing. We have worked with the design team to address these issues in the new design, whilst retaining high levels of natural light and ventilation to further reduce the carbon footprint of the building.

The project is due to start on site in the summer of 2015.

Investing in Rook Lane

March 2, 2015

NVB are continuing to build on the success of our arts venue with some exciting new additions.

We have installed a new floor to the main chapel which is more in-keeping with the fantastic arts and exhibition space. The café now boasts a fabulous new bar and acoustic treatment that makes the space ideal for larger meetings and conferences. We have also added new acoustic treatment to the main chapel that has retained the lovely acoustic for music but greatly improved the space for unamplified speech.

New Primary School for Queen Camel

January 15, 2015

Plans to move a village school in Somerset that has flooded at least six times since 2000 have been approved by Somerset Councillors at the recent Planning committee.

Countess Gytha School is next to the River Cam in Queen Camel but will now be rebuilt in a new site on the other side of the village on fields next to the medical centre. The approval marks the end of a detailed design process which involved Public meetings and client workshops in order to ensure the proposed design delivered the schools aims.

Head teacher Sue English said she was “thoroughly delighted” with the result. “It’s been a long process,” she said, “but the children are really excited by a new school and we’re looking forward to a school that is fit for the 21st Century.”

The design has been developed with BAM Construction and is programmed to start on site in May 2015.
