BD Education Architect of the Year!

October 18, 2023

We are over the moon to have been awarded the Building Design Education Architect of the Year Award at their award ceremony last night.  NVB were shortlisted in the Education Architect of the Year (Nursery to 6th Form) category and were selected over stiff competition from Levitt Bernstein, van Heyningen and Haward, vPPR,  Holloway Studio, Perkins and Will, IID Architects and Lee Evans Partnership.

Directors Andrew Simpson and James McGillivray attended the awards evening on behalf of NVB to collect the trophy.  The Award recognises a portfolio of work rather than a single project and is  testament to our fantastic team, not to mention fantastic clients who have had faith in our abilities over the years.

Our submission included:

Aldenham Prep School

Wootton Bassett Infants School

Haberdashers’ Boys’ School

and a research project looking at tackling loneliness by collocating primary schools and accommodation for the elderly on the same site.

Busy Students!

October 11, 2023

Congratulations to one of our Architectural Assistants Dulmini Perera who has a whole page in the Architects’ Journal dedicated to her Masters project on adaptive reuse and regeneration. A great project, beautifully conceived and drawn!  We do have a talented bunch in our team.

The Best Time to Plant a Tree…

September 27, 2023

We are delighted to see Andrew Simpson’s thoughful piece featured on the front page of Building Design this morning.  We have a reputation for educational design, but this project has expanded our thinking over the last five years and has also drawn on all of our landscape and urban design expertise.  And yes, it does include a school.

NVB are BD Architect of the Year Awards Finalists

August 8, 2023

NVB have been shortlisted for the Education category of the Building Design Architect of the Year Awards.  This comes hot on the heels of being shortlisted for the RIBA Regional Awards.

The competition looks at a body of work rather than an individual project and our entry included Wootton Bassett Infants School, Aldenham Prep School, Haberdashers’ Boys’ School Academic Hub and a research project on combining schools with senior living accommodation.  See our portfolio page for more details.

The winners are announced on 17th October and we are crossing everything.

What to do about a lovely old building which doesn’t suit modern education? Look no further than page 37 of the current issue of Independent Schools Magazine where director James McGillivray talks through the key points in addressing modern education in a historic environment.
